Open Call for art centers, cultural institutions and art residencies!

Artists at Risk (AR) has been supporting Ukrainian artists at safe locations within Ukraine since August of last year and is now announcing a new programme for AR-Hosts in Ukraine. The current Open Call is aimed at developing HOSTING organisations WITHIN UKRAINE. We invite any kind of existing or planned cultural institution, NGO or private initiative in Ukraine to join the AR-Network. So far, over 590 hosting institutions have signed up to partner with AR to help artists from Ukraine. However, most of these institutions are located outside of Ukraine. Within Ukraine, residences such as Bakota Hub, Creative Rural Hub and UnderCover Residence joined the AR-Network in 2022.

Why do we need your help? More than 2100 artists and cultural workers at risk have applied to Artists at Risk (AR) from Ukraine. Over 1700 of them are still waiting for a residency. Many of them wish to remain within Ukraine. That is why we need you!

Hosting institutions make a commitment to:

Host art professionals for a period of two to three months;
Guarantee basic conditions, if possible, including Guarantee basic conditions, if possible, including a separate room, hot water, access to a kitchen, Wi-Fi;
basic local amenities, such as grocery shops, local transport, etc;
ideally, a place for artistic work;
Support the artistic initiatives the artist may wish to carry out;
Receive and coordinate funds, if the artist cannot receive them personally.

AR offers:

Suitable candidates who match the artistic profile of the residence
Background checks about the needs of the artists, verifying each case individually;
Support for artists’ travel costs;
A 3-month emergency living grant for the artist ;
Accommodation costs, if required. Although free accommodation is provided by hosts in EU countries, in Ukraine we can help;
Consultation on grant opportunities from third parties.

AR-Ukraine Network hosting institutions are furthermore eligible to apply for coordination costs.

Please note that AR-Hosts furthermore commit to:

Guarantee equal treatment of artists regardless of origin, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, creed, nationality, religion or other forms of identity and genealogy. Intolerance alone cannot be tolerated.
Offer a LGBTQ+ friendly environment
Never require that artists perform work, either artistically or otherwise, in return for being provided a residency

All Hosting institutions become part of the wider activities of the international AR-Network. This may include the cooperation of AR-residents, production of artistic collaborations, campaigns, press drives and much more!
